Cultivation methods​

The three main components of the Champagne terroir – climate, soil and topography – create a specific combination, a mosaic of micro-terroirs with unique characteristics.

Topography​

The Champagne terroir is sufficiently steep and undulating to combine good drainage with excellent exposure to sunlight.

Soil and subsoil

The composition of the sub-soil is predominantly limestone which provides good drainage.

Climate

Champagne comes under the influence of a dual climate (subject to both oceanic and continental effects).
